CRUX Applied: Astronaut Selection
Medical workflow with AI enabled interview and analysis
Ambient in partnership with Axiom Space is developing a system to interview Astronaut candidates to enable their medical team to review more people.
The system follows the traditional paper process enabled as an AI powered website to automate the medical and business review process when selecting an astronaut and understanding the individual risks and cost to fly, culminating in a NASA Aeromedical Board review and approval.
Interview questions are unique to the candidate to inform the medical findings enabled by the Ambient CRUX cognitive platform. Once the interview is complete CRUX outputs in a medical report the findings, NASA standards that need waivers, follow up actions, risk assessment and expected costs to mitigate any risks.
The product is open to other uses such as commercial and military pilot screening and selection and any application that requires many people to be individually interviewed based on need and business decisions to be made at scale.

COGNI Technology Applied:
Deep learning and Accelerometry
Human fatigue with accelerometer and deep learning
The project calibrated a trail running track against satellite imagery and performed a 24 hour fatigue protocol to gather lab data and sensor data for acceleration, ECG and GPS. The pipeline shown above fused the data, trained two CNN deep learning models provided outputs for terrain the and fatigue level.
COGNI gathered all self assessment results and cognitive tests, allowing reliable and quick turn around of gold standard clinical grade assessments.
MATB was used to provide an exact 10 minute cognitive load every hour as part of the physical and cognitive loads in the experiment.
